Church In Tulsa - Oct 18, 2009

On Sunday, Oct 18, we went to church at Daniel and Shelley's church again, All Nations Fellowship.

We go there each time we visit them in Tulsa, and it's a very interesting, non-denominational Christian church.

Their praise team (this Sunday) consisted of a drummer, Daniel on bass guitar, an acoustic and an electric guitar, Shelley on keyboard, and two (or was it three?) female singers without instruments. Shelley and all they guys on all the guitars also sang.

October Saturday In Tulsa

It was time to visit Tulsa. I mean, one can only go so long before one has to visit an out of town daughter, right?

Jan and I left at oh-dark-thirty on Thursday morning and arrived in Tulsa before 2:15 PM for a nice visit with Daniel and Shelley, and their dog, Zoe.

The rest of Thursday was a relax and visit time, and Friday we just nattered about, went geocaching, ate, and visited.

However, on Saturday, Shelley had grand plans for us.

Afterburner Takeoff

This posting is to give more detail to something I alluded to in an earlier posting - your first takeoff in an afterburner-powered jet. Well, you wish.

Flying With The Blue Angels

Today I got an email from my friend Wayne.

The main part of the email said:

Date: Thursday, October 1, 2009, 2:32 PM

This video is way too cool! Got to watch this guy keep passing out during the flight.

Now We're Smokin'!

Woo-hoo! NOW We're smokin'!

Let me explain.

A few weeks ago, I saw a repeat episode of Alton Brown's "Good Eats" program on the Food Channel. I remember, the first time I saw it, making a mental note that I'd like to do something about what I saw on that episode.

So when I saw the repeat episode recently, I figured it was time to get busy and do something about it.

The episode was about smoking food, mostly meat, of course, in a homemade smoker grill.

Dinner At Biaggi's

Today is Wednesday, the last day of September.

Last night Jan and Grace and I met our friends Mike and Penney at Biaggi's for dinner.

Since Mike and I have our birthdays within a few days of each other, we use that excuse to get together and go out to eat, all of us together.

I know, it's not like we NEED an excuse, but unless there's an "occasion" like this, it's to easy to put it off, then it seems never to happen.

Biaggi's is a relatively new Italian restaurant in the ritzy Renaissance area of Ridgeland, and they are actually quite good.

Somewhat expensive, but good.

Luke And Oswald

I've had some interesting meditations today.

Let's start with the book of Luke, Chapter 9, verses 57 through 62. They say:

57As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go."

58Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."

Musings September 26, 2009

Today is Saturday, September 26, 2009, and I'm here to post a few musings as I watch my Florida Gators steamroller an unhappy Kentucky football team.

I missed the first hour of the game because I looked online and saw the Gators were playing in Kentucky, starting at 6PM. Well, forehead slap, Kentucky is in the EASTERN time zone and I'm in the Central time zone.

So I came into the game with about 13 1/2 minutes to go in the second quarter, and the Gators holding on to a slim 31-0 lead, having gained over 200 yards to Kentucky's -1.

A Funeral Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the funeral of the father-in-law of one of my friends.

I never met the man who died, but Mike is my friend, as is Penney, his wife, and it's Penney's dad who died Monday. It just occurred to me that I don't even know his name.

Mike says his main goal in life was to live to be 90 years old. He achieved that goal last Easter.

Tomorrow the three of us in my house will travel about an hour to the north on the Natchez Trace, to Kosciusko (it's pronounced Kozzy-ESko, if you need some help with that) where we'll attend the funeral at 2:30 PM.

Dinner Out

Usually, when I write a "Dinner Out" posting, it will be a review of the restaurant. And this one will probably be a bit of that.

But mostly, I'll just tell a bit about the newest young lady in my life: my granddaughter Katherine.

Jan and I went to Tennessee last Wednesday and Thursday - she had a business meeting to attend on Thursday morning in Smyrna, and I went to have lunch with my friend Ron, and to keep Jan company on the trip.

Along the way, we had a meal at a Cracker Barrel, and we noticed they had their double chocolate Coca-Cola Cake on the menu again.

Funny Pedometer Instructions

A few days ago, Jan got a new pedometer as part of her company's health program initiative.

It was made in China.

That alone should be 'nuff said, but the instructions that came with it are so funny, I just had to share them with you here.
